ROUTE-TO-PA is innovative and engaging ICT platform to ensure citizen-friendly, conscious and effective access to open-data, by offering easy understanding of, and social collaboration on, open data offered by Public Authorities. Its main components are:
Having more features and functionalities as well as improved aesthetics, Route-To-PA system enables improved browsing satisfaction and data exploration experience. More functionalities with improved speed coupled with other system qualities such as better user-friendly interface, the platform now enables even non-IT savvy users to explore different features and capabilities of the system so that they are able to put the platform resources into better usage.
With Personalised Search, Data consumers are able to search through huge datasets to fetch just those that are relevant to them. Based on the user profile data and/or interests, the system can auto-recommend datasets of specific nature or belonging to specific domain to the user. On the other hand, users who are not logged in can query the system to retrieve datasets of interest to them using search criteria such profession, location, education, employment status, health, gender and so on.
A dataset without sufficient metadata supplied along with it has a reduced usage for potential users. To increase the value of datasets supplied via this portal, the system has be upgraded to prompt data providers to supply more metadata for their datasets before uploading. This system is now able to present richer metadata qualities for each datasets on the platform which in turn increases the usability of the datasets. The metadata quality metric is able to measure the extent of the metadata quality that a dataset has and thus enable the potential users make informed decision even beforehand.
To link datasets, the importance of the metadata factors cannot be overemphasised. The improved supply of metadata has in effect improved the capability to link the datasets. Furthermore, the portal has improved system capabilities to facilitate data linking operations.
Utilizing the functionalities of Social Platform for Open Data (SPOD), Route-To-PA platform offers a social medial avenue for hosting discussions over datasets between people of similar interest or with the public who are registered on the platform. The system also enables sharing of datasets, dataset in a visualised format, links to datasets, etc., with other people via SPOD or email.
